One Night in Hong Kong

After reluctantly waking up from our naps in a jet lagged haze we showered, got dressed, and headed out to SoHo aka the million escalator area where there are tons of cool restaurants and pubs all connected by escalators. We had a light dinner at a mediterranean place and walked around to find an open pub for an after dinner drink before heading back to the hotel.

We ended up going to a place with live music where Kirstin had previously seen an 80's cover band play when she was here about a year ago. A great convo with the bouncer:
Kirstin: "what kind of music do you guys have here tonight?"
Bouncer: "live music. Michael Jackson copyright music."
A little IP law humor for the night.

We hung out at the live music bar and met a group of Italian and French people who were living in Hong Kong. They ended up buying easily over 10 bottles of champaign for the group of about 8 of them and invited us to join. Obviously we couldn't deny them the pleasure of our company.

The Italian guy who introduced us to the group was named Marco. I proceeded to call him Marco Polo for the rest of the night. We asked him what he was doing living in hong kong, he said that he was an artist, a painter from Italy to be exact and that he came here to sell his art to all the rich people. We both figured he must have been a very successful modern artist to be able to buy everyone's drinks and multiple bottles throughout the night. When we asked him what he painted, he answered that he painted portraits but only of himself. Seriously? No. Turns out he was not an italian painter at all as facebook later revealed, but rather a banker for BNP. Now the free flowing drinks make sense.

And clearly I was excited to finally dance my tush off after being cooped up in the library for months.

We got back to the hotel pretty late and fell asleep. Upon waking we had a quick bite to eat and headed to the airport to fly down to Bangkok where we will connect to Koh Samui.

I had been reading on flyertalk about custom made Shang Tai pajamas that first-class passengers get on Cathay and had been dying to try a pair. On our first flight they were nice enough to give us a set each but only had size large. (Brent, fancy pajama set coming your way soon!) So, on our flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok we hoped to get a size small each. The flight attendant politely declined. Oh well, next time! Maybe on my honeymoon :)

We are on our way to Koh Samui, an island in Thailand I didn't get a chance to visit when I was here in 2008 and am looking forward to it tremendously. Hopefully we will be able to meet up with some law school friends who are already there. Here's a final shot in Cathay's upper cabin business class. What a treat!

P.S. I even found a little wedding flowers inspiration outside the lounge. You like?
